For most of her life, Kendra E. Bowers has studied, lived and breathed the Native American cultures, arts and crafts of the Southwest and Mexico. An anthropologist with many decades of field experience, her expertise is impeccable.

Ms. Bowers, a nationally recognized appraiser since 1977, and accredited member of the American Society of Appraisers since 1988, has participated in the Denver Museum of Natural History's public fundraising appraisals for many years. She has also done benefit appraisals for non-profit organizations, as well as worked for numerous other museums, galleries, and private collectors.

Why an appraisal?

    1. Many people do not know the value or importance of their collection, or pieces kicking around the house or attic.
    2. Under-insured items means money lost, should theft or natural disasters claim a collection or piece or art.

What's more, art is one of the best investments a person can make because of its spiraling value. Without an updated appraisal, however, insurance companies, as a rule, will not pay for yearly increases in market prices. Often, owners woefully under-value their art pieces, too late discovering a simple and relatively inexpensive insurance "floater" -- complete with a reliable appraisal - is all the protection needed.

Ms. Bowers has done appraisals for insurance companies, charitable donations, divorce settlements and in the distribution and taxation of estates, in addition to her work for museums, galleries, colleges and private individuals. She will supply researched and documented, written or verbal appraisals, depending on the needs of the client. Arrangements can be made for the appraisal to be done in her office or she can come to your home or place of choice.

The appraiser specializes in prehistoric, historic and contemporary Southwestern arts: weavings (blankets and rugs), basketry, pottery, kachinas, and jewelry. She also appraises Plains beadwork, California and Basin basketry and Hispanic and Northwest Coast wood carvings.

A noted specialist on Southwestern Indians, university anthropologist, art broker, consultant, collector and former museum curator, Kendra E. Bowers gives confidential, quick, factual and professional estimates of artwork, complete with current comparisons. Most importantly, her opinions are sought by insurance adjusters, bankers and other experts.
